2004 BARRA of Mendocino Zinfandel |
||||||||||||||||||||
![]() Medium ruby in color, this wine has very seductive aromas of black cherry, red licorice, clove, sandalwood and hints of black pepper. The flavors are rich, and beautifully wrapped around a soft and full bodied mouth. Rich dark flavors of black plum, blackcherry, star anise with just a hint of vanilla are showcased in this dark, almost brooding style of Zinfandel. The bright, rich fruit flavors are well balanced and stand up to the ripe style due to the richness of body and structure. These grapes were harvested on October 4th, 2004. They were then cold soaked for 72 hours before fermentation began. They fermented on the skins for 10 days before being drained and pressed into stainless steel tanks. This is where the wine finished alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. They were then transferred to small, 59 gallon French oak barrels that were 2-3 years old. The wine aged gracefully in barrels for 1 year before being bottled.
